How do you search and download?
Front and center is Search. Enter a keyword and then click the magnifying glass. Then click the file name to download.
Where are all my files from LimeWire 4?
LimeWire 5 didn't delete your files when you upgraded to 5; the files are still in their previous file locations. You can add more folders for My Files to manage and then you can see the files in LimeWire.
Past versions of LimeWire used the following folders to save and share files:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\LimeWire
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\My Documents\LimeWire
One trick to find files is to use your operating system to search for a file that you know was in those folders. Once you find the the path of the folder, then you can add the folder path as a managed folder in My Files.
How do you uninstall LimeWire?
You can uninstall the LimeWire Program by clicking on the "Start" button; then clicking on the "Settings" button and/or then clicking on the "Control Panel" button, then clicking on the "Add or Remove Programs" button, then selecting "LimeWire", then clicking on the "Change/Remove" button.
How do you select a shared folder to add shared files?
The concept of a shared folder is no longer present to avoid inadvertent sharing. Instead, you can add folders for LimeWire to manage and through My Files to set which files to share or unshare.
How do you know which files are shared?
Click Share # files to see what you are sharing:
How do you share with Friends?
Sign into Friends, add friends to the Private Shared and then add files.
How do you get search results to be more like the old way?
You can switch views between the new way search results are shown and the Classic View.
What does 'quality' mean for search results?
LimeWire looks at details about the search results and automatically chooses the quality setting for each file.
How do you enable the Bitrate column?
In Classic View for search results, make sure you are in the 'Audio' category. Then right click (or Control click) the column heading (as shown below) to add Bitrate.
What are those odd names for the P2P User?
Instead of showing other P2P User's IP Address, the names (like 'Fast Snail0-12') are a way to recognize a user. LimeWire has a dictionary of random words which correspond to a number which in turn makes up your IP Address. The names are a way to obscure people's IP addresses a bit while also making it easy to recognize the same host across different searches. Therefore, if you have an IP address which never changes, people always see the same name appear for you in search results.
How do you browse host?
To Browse files of another P2P User, click on the arrow next to P2P User, P2P Users or People (where People is a combination of Friends and P2P Users) after you do a search. Then select 'View Files of ..." The person's library appears on the Sidebar under On LimeWire.
What's the book icon in the search results?
When the file finishes downloading, the down arrow becomes a book icon to show it's in My Files, Library. If you double click the book icon or single click the underlined 'Library', LimeWire takes you to My Files and selects the file.
What's the limit for number of simultaneous downloads?
The default number of downloads is eight. More than eight could can cause significant performance problems. The default limit of simultaneous downloads is set in Tools > Options > Advanced, Transfers.
How do you add downloads to iTunes?
Tools > Options, My Files, Configure, "Add audio files I download from LimeWire to iTunes". See iTunes Integration for more information.
Why does iTunes start after a download completes?
iTunes needs to be running to add audio files to your iTunes Library. Therefore, if you selected to add audio downloads to iTunes, then when a download completes, iTunes starts.
Where's the firewall notification icon?
Under Tools > Advanced Tools, there's text in the Connections screen which tells you if you are behind a firewall, etc.
Where's Bitzi lookup?
Select the file, right click (or Control click) and select 'View File Info...'. Then click 'lookup on Bitzi'.
What java version do you need?
Java 6.
Does LimeWire 5 support 32-bit Java on Mac OS X?
It depends. LimeWire 5 only supports 64-bit Java for Mac 10.5, i.e. Leopard. However, LimeWire 5 supports 32-bit Java on Mac 10.6, i.e. Snow Leopard.
Where are skins?
Due to schedule and complexity constraints, skins aren't in the current version.
How can I increase the font size?
Again, due to schedule and complexity constraints, increasing font size isn't in the current version.
What is the Obscene Content policy?
